Meet Tobias Rober Jakobsen, who works as a freelance sound technician in his free time<\/strong><\/p> For many students, their career begins while they are still studying, whether through internships, student jobs, or even freelancing.<\/p> Campus Kolding has interviewed Tobias, who is studying the Sonic College sound design program at UC SYD. I love my studies\u2014it\u2019s incredibly exciting. There are so many opportunities and space to specialize in different areas. We have access to the school 24\/7, so there\u2019s a strong culture of spending time there. There\u2019s a shared forum that brings us closer together, unlike anything I\u2019ve experienced before. <\/p> It\u2019s amazing to be part of this environment.<\/p>","sticker":{"type":"speaker","color":"green","position":"bottom\/right"}},{"acf_fc_layout":"blockTextQuote","internalName":"Tobias: tilflytter","colorTheme":"white","text":" It\u2019s been tough to start a new program and move to a city where you don\u2019t know anyone. But it\u2019s actually been great to "start fresh" and reinvent myself. Of course, I miss my family and friends back home, but it\u2019s been a positive experience.<\/p> When you start studying, there are lots of opportunities. For instance, there\u2019s the KONTUR student festival and many other events. There\u2019s so much to do right from the beginning, which really helps build social connections.<\/p> Just dive in! Of course, know your limits and when your social battery is running low. It\u2019s okay to say no, but try to embrace new experiences, follow along, and meet new people. The worst that can happen is that you don\u2019t click, and then you can go your separate ways. It\u2019s amazing to train, especially in good weather. I\u2019m a coach for Campus Sports\u2019 workout containers every Thursday, where we do strength training. It\u2019s public, free, and you can do all kinds of exercises.<\/p> I also work a lot with live sound as a freelance live technician for concerts. I\u2019m a house technician at JazzHouse, I work at Ewii House, I\u2019m a volunteer at Godset, and I work on stage design at Kolding Egnsteater. I also handle tech at Knuds Dance Hall.<\/p> I\u2019ve done a lot of sound art, too\u2014for instance, for Trapholt\u2019s Nanna Ditzel exhibition, Kolding Municipality\u2019s New Year\u2019s reception, and the Design School\u2019s Christmas Bazaar. Right now, I\u2019m working on a project I got through JazzHouse, creating interactive sound art for children. I\u2019ll also be attending Roskilde Festival as part of Sonic College, though I\u2019m not quite sure what my role will be yet.<\/p> It\u2019s important to me to do work that I find exciting and relevant to my studies.<\/p>","sticker":{"type":false,"color":false,"position":false}},{"acf_fc_layout":"blockTextQuote","internalName":"Tobias: freelance","colorTheme":"white","text":" One of the most amazing things I\u2019ve done as a freelancer so far is the Trapholt project, where I created sound for Nanna Ditzel. It all started with a project for the Design School\u2019s Christmas Bazaar, which led to someone from the municipality asking me to do something similar for Kolding Municipality\u2019s New Year\u2019s reception. Later, Trapholt contacted me about a sound installation for their Nanna Ditzel exhibition. It's really amazing how networking is apparently a thing. <\/p> But how do you capture the sound of Nanna Ditzel? She made furniture, not sound. We focused on the organic and natural elements\u2014everything vibrates at a frequency. It was like the entire exhibition came to life in a whole new way. Seeing people\u2019s reactions, making them happy, and the "instant reward" was amazing and something I hadn\u2019t thought about before.<\/p> There are so many opportunities. One thing leads to another, and suddenly you\u2019re building something you didn\u2019t even know was possible. I dream about working on something like The X Factor.
