Learning Danish

In Denmark we speak Danish, and even though the Danes are generally good at speaking English it is an advantage to learn Danish. In Denmark you have the right to acquire Danish at a language school from the day you receive your CPR number and the following 5 years.

Why should I learn Danish?

Knowing basic Danish makes it much easier to get a student job and a job after you graduate. It is easier to get a relation to the Danes, having a social network and to understand Danish. You have a possibility of applying for permanent residency later and get access to further courses and education. If you end up staying in Denmark after you graduate, having a certain Danish level can help in relations to a-kasse (unemployment insurance fund) and dagpenge (unemployment benefits).

Kolding Sprogskole

Kolding sprogskole a public language school and is located at the Campus area next to the four educational institutions in Kolding.

As a student you can join a Danish course after paying a deposit of DKK 2.000. You have the possibility of getting the deposit back when passing a module test within the time limits given - this means you can essentially learn Danish for free!

Language Café

The best way to learn Danish is by speaking it! Kolding offers several language cafés designed to help you incorporate Danish into your everyday conversation.

Huset Fundament is launching their café on August 15th, and it will take place every Thursday from 5 PM to 7:30 PM at Arkaden. The Language Café is run by Danish-speaking youth, who will organize various activities centered around speaking Danish. These include board games, quiz nights, treasure hunts, and general gatherings focused on exploring and practicing the Danish language in a fun and welcoming community setting.

Simon Peters Kirke also has a language café on Tuesdays from 4 PM - 6 AM at Simon Peters Hus (Islandsvej 4, 6000 Kolding).

The Danish Red Cross also has tools to help you practice Danish with their volunteer language trainers. You can book an online conversation at sprogland.
